WHY SKINCARE STILL MATTERS AT 35,000 FEET

 

It’s quite fun – jet setting around the world and traveling through different time zones. One day you’re in Paris having dinner and next you find yourself lost in the streets of Japan. It’s fun until you realize your skin getting more dehydrated as you gain more air miles. Now the question is, “How do you take care of your skin at 35,000 feet above?”


Dubai-based Fashion & Lifestyle Influencer Lady Baltazar shares a step-by-step guide to combat this problem. “After taking countless of flights and traveling to around 39 countries in different continents, I have learned to value and take skin care more seriously.” She said. During flights, the air tends to take the moisture out of your skin and makes it more prone to irritation due to the sudden changes in temperature and humidity levels.

Here’s a step by step guide jetsetter and trendsetter Lady Baltazar swears by:

STEP1: WIPE IT OFF
“Don’t leave the house without packing makeup wipes in your carry-on.” Lady advises. Try to remove your makeup (if you’re wearing it) as soon as you’re settled in. This will give you a clean canvas before you start your in-flight skincare routine.

STEP 2: APPLY SERUM/OIL
What is serum and what does it do? Serums, unlike standard moisturizers, are able to be quickly absorbed by our skin on a deeper cellular level because of its smaller particles. It can act as a multivitamin for your face and work more effectively especially in an environment where air is being recycled. Facial oil is a good option too as it helps seal in moisture and add extra nourishment to your skin.

STEP 3: ENJOY A RELAXING FACE MASK
Now for the best part—you get to pamper yourself with a relaxing face mask while indulging in the aircraft’s in-flight entertainment. Does it get any better than this?

STEP 4: TIME FOR MOISTURIZER
It’s time to seal the deal. Traditional moisturizers, like face creams, are much richer and help create a protective layer on top of your skin. Besides acting as a barrier against dirt, moisturizers can give you a soft, smoother and glowing skin. Extra tip: to get the most out of it, choose a moisturizer that has SPF in the formula. Its importance is often underestimated as most people don’t realize the effect of being exposed to UV light especially during flights where the sun’s rays can easily penetrate plane windows.

STEP 5: DON’T TAKE IT WITH A GRAIN OF SALT
In-flight meals contain more salt than those offered at a restaurant on the ground. It is because our normal sense of taste becomes manipulated at 35,000 feet due to lack of humidity and lower air pressure. So before you ask the crew for that extra grain of salt, think again. Remember, too much salt intake can dehydrate your skin and can lead to swelling.

STEP 6: CATCH SOME Z’s
Sleep, and all the good things it contributes for our skin’s health, is most often undervalued. If you want to have that glow when you land at your destination, try to get some sleep especially on long-haul flights. Eye masks and headphones can be helpful in this case. And oh, skip the caffeine and alcohol and drink more water instead. You’ll thank me later.
